How to Improve Pattern Recognition Before a Test
Pattern recognition improves when you stop treating every puzzle as new. Most questions reuse familiar rule types: count, direction, position, shading, size, rotation, and sequence.
Practice naming the rule
After each puzzle, say the rule in one sentence. If you cannot name it, you may have guessed even if you got the answer right.
Use elimination
Wrong options usually break at least one required feature. Eliminate options that fail the rule before choosing between the remaining answers.
Train under light time pressure
Once you understand a puzzle type, add a timer. The goal is controlled speed, not panic clicking.
Quick answers
Can adults improve pattern recognition?
Yes. Better scanning strategy can improve performance on puzzle tasks.
What is the biggest mistake?
Not checking whether an answer satisfies every part of the pattern.
