How percentile rank works in an IQ-style test

Percentile rank is a comparison number. It answers a simple question: compared with other scored sessions, how many did this result rank higher than?

Percentile is not the same as percent correct

If someone gets 24 out of 39 answers correct, that does not automatically mean the 62nd percentile. Percentile depends on the full benchmark group. If many people found the test difficult, a moderate raw score can rank higher. If many people did well, the same raw score can rank lower.

Why speed matters carefully

Speed is useful only after accuracy. A test taker who answers a hard item correctly in six seconds showed stronger performance than someone who answers the same hard item correctly in forty seconds. But speed should not rescue a wrong answer.

What does top 7% mean?

Top 7% means the result ranked higher than about 93% of comparable scored sessions. That label should be earned by strong accuracy and strong speed, not by guessing quickly.
